Saw Toothed Goldenbush (
Hazardia squarrosa
var. grindelioides) is a native sub-shrub in the Asteraceae (Sunflower) family that grows in southern and central California. It is found along the coast, in the foothills, valleys, and coastal mountains from Monterey County to northern Baja at elevations from 300-4300 feet. It is also commonly found along roadsides, trail edges, and other disturbed places. The flower head consists of only disc flowers. The flowers have great color and a long bloom time. There are two other recognized varieties of this species that differ primarily in leaf shape. This plant is good for "wild" gardens and for restoration projects.
