About Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia var. agrifolia) 2 Nurseries Carry This Plant Quercus agrifolia var. agrifolia is one of two recognized varieties of this popular tree. The other variety is var. oxyadenia. Both are known as Coast Live Oak (see description of Quercus agrifolia for more details regarding the species). Differences between the two varieties and the primary species are very subtle. Var. agrifolia is found along the coast from Sonoma County southward. Gardening recommendations are the same as for Quercus agrifolia.
