Western Hemlock (
Tsuga heterophylla
) is a native tree that grows in Central and Northern California, primarily in the North Coast, the Klamath Mountain Range and North Coast Range regions. It is slow growing and long-lived. It grows in a cone-shaped form to a height of 170 feet, with active growth during the spring and summer. Leaves are medium green, and remain on the plant throughout the year. It tends to grow in moist places, at elevations from 0-2300 feet.
